The principle behind homeopathic medicine

All homeopathic medicine are created on the principle of using like to cure like. Illnesses are treated with a homeopathic medicine made from a substance that produces similar symptoms in a healthy person. For example, a sting from a honey bee can cause inflammation, redness and itching. A homeopathic medicine made from the same substance will speedily relieve all such symptoms even though the cause may not be a bee sting.
Homeopathic medicine - a holistic approach
Being holistic, homeopathic medicine takes a wider view of illness, the causes of disease and the ways in which your symptoms and ill health affect you. Homeopathy does not treat physical, emotional, and mental illness separately, but regards them as intimately connected, since all are aspects of an absence of health. Symptoms of illness are viewed as the body’s efforts to heal itself and these clues help the homeopath select the best remedy for your body, your mind, and for the root cause of your illness. In this way it aims to treat the illness and not just suppress the symptoms of your disease.
Homeopathic medicines are holistic and recognize that symptoms of illness are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the person and not the illness that needs treatment. When a person is unwell or under stress, their body attempts to restore balance, a process in which symptoms are displayed, e.g. headaches, feeling sick, painful joints etc. Viewed in this way, symptoms can be seen as the external effects of the internal fight to get well.
Modern medicine versus homeopathy
Modern medicine looks at symptoms as belonging to the disease, and so one gets the symptoms when one has the disease. Seeing symptoms as synonymous with disease, medicine seeks to remove them. But suppressing symptoms without removing causes or strengthening the body merely weakens you and promotes future problems. On the other hand, homeopathic medicine considers symptoms as our own physiological, biological and physiological response to various causative factors, including viruses, bacteria, injuries, nutritional deficiency, etc. Neither these causes not the diseases they represent have symptoms – only people do! Symptoms belong to people, not to diseases, and thus homeopathy attempts to stimulate and assist the healing responses, as expressed by the symptoms.
