What is homeopathy

Exactly what is Homeopathy? It is an ancient system of medicine that has been used world-wide for thousands of years. It was formalized into a healing science by Samuel Hahnemann, doctor and chemist, in the late 18th century. It’s aim is to help the body heal itself. When we ask ourselves what is Homeopathy we also need to look at the way homeopathy is used as a treatment. Homeopathy does not just treat the symptoms but helps you deal with the root cause of the illness and regain good health. A homeopathic consultation focuses on the whole person so that remedies can be selected on the basis of all aspects of the patient – mental, emotional, as well as physical. This means that treatment is highly individual.
Principles of Homeopathy
Homeopathy is based on the principle of using like to cure like. It treats an illness with medicine made from a substance that would produce similar symptoms in a healthy person. For example, a sting from a honey bee can cause inflammation, redness and itching. A homeopathic remedy made from the same substance will speedily relieve all such symptoms even though the cause may not be a bee sting.
Aims of Homeopathy
Homeopathy aims to help you achieve freedom from ill health, traumas, and emotional problems. It seeks, ideally, to help you reach a level of health where you are no longer dependent on any ongoing medicine or therapy.
Using Homeopathy
Homeopathy is preventative at its deepest level. Remedies don’t just destroy offending organisms, leaving the immune system less able to cope than before. To the contrary, they nudge the immune system (which includes not only the body’s immune cells but also the mental and emotional states which keep these cells healthy) into greater responsiveness and readiness so that disease is averted or recurrence avoided.
